message
The focus of our laboratory is the functional analysis of genomic information and gene products using computational methods.
With the availability of the genomic sequences of model species and the feasibility of sequencing individual genomes, research to elucidate disease mechanisms and decipher the genetic codes from the massive amount of genomic data has become an important area of research. Advanced information processing of large amounts of genomic data plays an important role in this area of research. For the first time, questions such as - How is the expression of genes controlled? And how does this lead to distinct biological phenotypes? - can be addressed. We believe that gene expression profiling, promoter structure modeling, and the creation of protein-protein interaction databases using data from high-throughput experiments are effective approaches to tackle these challenging problems. We use computational methods (in silico approaches) to address these questions.
Working in collaboration with experimental biologists, we analyze data from next-generation sequencing machines in order to elucidate disease mechanisms, study the immune response, and provide insights in the field of regenerative medicine.
Bioinformatics is an interdisciplinary field of research. The staff and graduate students in our laboratory not only come from various academic backgrounds,
but also from different parts of the world. If you would like to join our laboratory as a graduate student, you can enroll in either
1. the Department of Computer Science (CS) in the Graduate School of Information Science and Technology, the University of Tokyo
2. the Department of Computational Biology and Medical Sciences (CBMS) in the Graduate School of Frontier Sciences, the University of Tokyo
We welcome students interested in studying biology, mathematics and informatics and having a keen interest in the discovery of biological phenomena.
We are also looking for talented Post-doctoral researchers who are interested in conducting independent research projects.
We encourage active discussions in our lab, hold intra-lab seminars regularly, and are actively engaged in poster and oral presentations at domestic and international conferences, along with publications in various peer-reviewed journals. Our lab has access to the world-class supercomputer at the Institute of Medical Science, University of Tokyo , along with great views of the Tokyo Tower and the Tokyo Sky Tree (Scene of Lab. ).
Please feel free to contact us if you are interested in our work, would like to join us or just visit our lab.
We look forward to welcoming you into our group!
